Rainbow Junction is designed to integrate and incorporate the 35ha of managed open green space, including the 4km of river frontage, to create an environmentally beautiful and exciting public open landscape with strong relationships to the adjacent built environment. The Apies River runs through the Pretoria CBD prior to running through Rainbow Junction. The Apies River Storm Water and Rehabilitation project of the City of Tshwane has been designed to contain and control flood lines while optimising developable land.
Part of the construction of the storm water solutions will involve rehabilitation of the Apies River as well as landscape improvements according to the Landscape Master Plan. The Apies River will be upgraded and landscaped to allow visitors the experience of meandering along 4km of rehabilitated river and indigenous parkland.

The full life-cycle pre-primary, junior and senior schools will create the transition between the commercial activities and the residential activities in the Northern precinct of Rainbow Junction. Responding to changing dynamics of attitudes toward education, Rainbow Junction will position a unique school solution, speaking to a fresh approach to age-old question of nurturing our children.
